My son started his club life on a KX60 it was a great little bike unless it was muddy, the mud would get into the brakes and worked like grinding paste flogging out the hubs.
It was such a common problem that you could buy oversized brake shoes to fill the hub.
I found I could not stop the mud getting into the hub so I decided to help it get out.
I used a 4" angle grinder and cut diagonal groves into the shoe surface, the groves started closest to the hub and moved diagonally out to the backing plate in the same direction as the wheel rotated.
As the wheel rotated it would help push the mud out of the hub.
There was a huge improvement in wet weather braking making ridding more fun and safer for my young bloke.
So proud of my two bikie kids. Cooper was awarded first prize in his "C grade" group and Jordan came second in her "peewees " Fun day. Kids did a slow race (last one wins). Running race in riding boots. Santa rocked up on a RMZ! The crf 50s copped a flogging and Cooper and his mates refined their gully crossings.20171210_133149.jpg20171210_124342.jpg
