    Dirt Squirt from QA/Z50J meld

Picked up a QA50 / Z50J meld the other week. Thanks Tom Fidler. Started to clean up the frame. So far from this

    To this

Just for fun. It has a repaired tank with a petrol tin screw lid, Z50 tyres and rims, Z50 engine still to have running, and a Z50 seat to be repaired. Had no bearings in the steering head, and the brakes were seized.

The grand-kids will be pleased, They are not allowed near my Z50M. But they enjoy a double on the Lifan 125 scooter that can be seen in the background in one of the shots.

The frame seems to be from a QA50 KO. Frame number starts with QA50-1*****. But it has the fixed handlebars of the K1 - K3. A real bitsa bike.

That would be good fun to ride! Wouldn’t matter too much if it got dinged up. I wish my parents got me a peewee fifty when I was younger.

A quick update. Soldered up the wiring that had only been twisted and taped, and re-mounted the coil with bullet connectors in the wiring. Mounted the fuel tank. Did a fast repair of the seat with gaffer tape, and screws with washers in place of the rusted seat studs. Re-mounted the seat. Connected up the rear brakes.

Opened the carbie to check condition, has had water in it, corroded and full of crap.

This will keep me busy for a while in my spare time

Well. It looks like I need to rename this thread to QA50/Z50R meld, from the engine number, the engine seems to actually be from a 1979 Z50R.

Anyway, all of the engines are basically the same; and it is fun to work on and ride any of the Z's. (And the Decksons etc. )

It is getting closer, but still waiting for a couple of parts. Changed the badly damaged rotor cover for one that I had that is not as bad (now two mounting screws, and not just one).

Also mounted the engine and front wheel. So close now. Also used the CRF50 exhaust that I had on my Z50M before purchasing a low style muffler for it. I think that it is looking OK

Have ridden it around the yard, adjusted the chain tension and the brakes, and changed the oil.
