With the way the Groms have exploded in popularity you would think they'd be seriously thinking about it!

The Grom has died off, they're apparently giving decent discounts over here to get them out of the showrooms! One of the Thailand monkey pages posted up photos and prices from that show, came in at just shy of $4,000 in Thailand! considering the Grom is ride away for $2,200 over there, that's because it's made there, these new monkeys share the same frame so I'd be surprised if it isn't made there too, but the big price difference?

I think as the grom is marketed towards the youth market more, there is many that hated the new plastic bikes and die hard monkey riders would not have one, the new monkey has people drooling for them even though they are not original monkey sized the custom options will be just as trick as the originals, more reliable, faster and fit bigger folk better, i set up the "New Honda Monkey 125 UK" group on facebook which your more than welcome to join for latest news and info, price is expected to be around 3.6k when the UK get them towards the end of summer, personally i cannot wait to see how well they do, i am to big, heavy and arthritic to ride an original as much as i would love to, the new one opens the door for me to comprimise retaining the look but having the comfort i need.

I have a feeling anyone that gets one will be treated like the new MINI drivers were when they came out, I’d like to be proved wrong but I’ve seen it too many times with these modern retro takes on old vehicles. Another example is the water cooled Harley’s. Technically a way better bike (even built with the help of Porsche). (I’m talking about V-Rod, not the made in India Harley’s, they are junk). If these new monkies are accepted by the die hard fans I think they’ll end up like dax riders, wishing they bought a proper monkey.

The Grom was originally built for the cheap Asian market in mind and worked very well over there, the only options they had were scooters before the grom, here in Australia it's the cheapest brand new bike you can buy while on your "P"s and so did well originally. As for the "Die hard monkey riders" yes I'm one of those the grom has no connection to the original monkey and to this day I'm still trying to find out how people have thrown them in the same basket, beside the fact both are made by Honda and the "yeh but nah, it's small hey" argument! to me it's like turning up to a classic Mustang meet with a Ford Focus and using the same arguments. Turning up in a new Mustang to a classic meet on the other hand.....

I think, as Paulie said, the 'new' monkey buyers will be similar to the new MINI buyers/owners are. They're people who's parents probably had one or the one's who don't want the 'old car' problems.

Or, they will be existing monkey owners that just want "another one"

These just happened to be on the salespersons desk when I was at Honda today - and he didn't say don't take them

I put a deposit on a red one.

I'd actually consider these as an option to ride the hell out of, the Grom was a no for me but this is a lot more acceptable. Only thing I would be considering is size - if it's Grom sized (which I reckon it will be) I would pass.

Gives you an idea on size, pretty much grom sized but a little shorter in length.

Classic marketing to set the price point, they determine how many people are interested in it (tell us if you're interested), if it's above the amount Honda Japan will supply to Australia they just price it at a premium. Mercedes did the same thing with the new model C63, old model was $140,000 new model is $200,000+ simply due to the demand outstripping supply.

I think you can almost bet your house on it, same frame and motor as the grom....

Yeah Dex - the blue is cool. I was told that we are only getting them in red or yellow.

    Who knows but?

I'd really like one in black:

Think I prefer the grom, the missus and I a planning on one each after the winter
Don’t think much of the colors but!
We hired one cairns a while back, 2 up 96klms flat out with 160kgs
Handle just loke a normal sized bike. Brakes were excellent. Suspension with that weight on it, couldn’t fault it.

They are the same size. It's basically a Grom with different body work and twin shock. Main frame, engine, forks and wheels are all from the Grom.

I guess the new Monkey will be the first that doesn't fit inside the 'moped' class for those sates that allow you to ride a moped on a car licence.
You're only young once but you can ride a monkey forever.

Good idea, paint the box blue and white, with an 'Esky' sticker on it = Australian content.

I wonder what's in it, surely its not just an air filter.

True stroy, I'd be chucking a good pod on, removing the octopus and adding smog block off plates ASAP.

Just got the email from Honda confirming the price. $5999 ride away.

I was keen with a price closer to the Grom but not at almost $2000 more.

Might be the downfall, $4k was justifiable for the Grom when you wanted a cheap fun bike or runaround - but this has an enthusiast tax on it that I dont see the likes of us being all that keen on paying.

Yup. There is no way you'll catch me paying $6k or anywhere near it. Be interesting to see their sales figures after the first two months

    It's high - but that's RRP?

I don't ever recall paying RRP for any bikes (or cars) that I've bought.

It will be interesting to see what people actually pay.

Groms RRP'd at $3999 and sold at that - there was no budging on the price (unless'n you bought a demo).
