    Taking up smoking

Managed to pick up my dream bike for a pretty decent price. Apparently mechanically sound but just a bit rough around the edges - which is fine as I'll be getting the fairings resprayed, then sticking it in the pool room.

Havent got it yet Spanky - will have a good look.

It's a 1993 RGV250 Ray, I will more than likely register at some point - but I've only just got myself down to 6 regos now. So it will sit for a bit.

Yeah, they aren't huge - but then again, neither am I. I'm just under 6 foot and 85kg, I've heard that taller guys find them to be very cramped.

If it does get registered it would be only for mountain runs and such, so it's all about fun factor!

So it's here and a very minimal amount of fuss got it going - new battery, gave the plugs a clean and PUT THE FUEL FILTER IN THE RIGHT WAY!!!! It's rough, but mechanically ok.

Stripped down and mocked up with the new fairings, will need to send tank and hugger off to be painted up to match.

Yeah the KR1S was on my list as i have a soft spot for Kwakas (I learnt to ride on a ZX2R and have my ZRX1200 now) but they are much rarer and short on HP - 45hp as opposed to the 60+ for RGV and Aprilia RS.

Yep, that's eBay kit. About $500 shipped. Finish is excellent but havent fitted it all up yet.
From what I hear the colours are off a bit - which is fine as I'll get the other bits painted to match, but if you were just replacing like for like that would be an issue.
I'll also be renforceing all the mount points with some extra glass as they are very thin compared to OEM (yay lighter!) and I am told prone to hairline cracks around the mount points.

Tank, front fender and hugger off being painted. All fluids and filters replaced. Fixed oil leak (oil pump gasket) and fairings mounted.

Do not for one minute think the China plastics are plug and play, not even close - but the end result is pretty good for 1/4 (maybe less) of the cost of a respray and new decals.

Tank, hugger and front fender back from painter.

Not much to go now - just screen, mirrors, pillion seat and indicators. Wheels need to go the same white to be correct - painter has mixed extra already and is ready to go!

Looks a bit darker than it is Dex, but it's definitely darker than it should be according to OEM - but we had to do that to match the China fairings.

Maybe one day I'll get the whole think done again all correctly (using the original fairings), but this was a semi budget build and a $2K wasnt in the budget

Update, pulled it out and gave it a clean - ripped the wheels off so they can go to painter to match the white. Snapped this pic before though.

Scored some cheap decent rotors (have done a total of 400kms) so found time to mount them up. Next is a caliper rebuild - they are already stripped and painted and seal kit just arrived.

i'd be keeping it, that was the best looking RGV they made.
You have two parts of brain, 'left' and 'right'. In the left side, there's nothing right. In the right side, there's nothing left.

I'd love to mate, but it would be a struggle $ wise.

Guy gave me 10% deposit last night but hasnt called re pickup today. If the sale somehow falls through I dont think I'll put it back up for sale and will just work something out.

    Severe sellers remorse.

i hope the 10% deposit is around the $600-$700 mark, good ones are hard to find.
