89' 50R Golfer stolen and recovered in tatters.

I picked this up a week ago now, it was a one owner bike with until someone decided to 'borrow' it from storage at a golf course. Other than the terrible rattle can paint on wheels, forks and frame it is overall in pretty good condition, but does need quite a few bits and pieces.

I've always secretly had a dream of a registered 50r for 'milk bar runs' and the like, however, friends are insisting I should restore it and not reframe it with my complied frame..

    The story goes:
Purchased new by a bloke in Birchip with a sidecar to hold his golf bag, used to cart him and his golf bag for a round or two of golf for less than six months a year because we only play golf up here in winter. He used to leave it at the Club house locked up in the shed so he didn't have to cart it in and out each week, anyway some low life broke into the shed to knock off the bike and some other stuff. The cops got hold of them and that's how we got the bike back but they had pulled it apart to either sell the parts or just to paint some of the parts to change the look of it. This is all we got back, the owner an older bloke wasn't insured so it just sat in his shed because he thought that it wasn't worth fixing it back up.
    The plan:
    1. Replace all the missing parts.
    2. Pull off the top end and make sure its clean and free of foreign objects.
    3. Get it running and riding.
    4. Reassess plan?

Not in my lifetime! (a little OT however, I've never owned anything other than rotaries ) Unfortunately for the missus and my family, I don't tend to ever sell my toys.. it can get daunting when you have far too many projects on the go at once!

As I have one of these with rego I can tell you they are pretty low to the ground compared to riding a J1 or JZ and requires a completely different style of riding when it comes to fast sweeping corners, but lots of fun.

Big shout out to Yonda, he sorted me out with quite a few parts I was missing. Bike now has the Bar clamp, rear shocks, rear support bar, intake manifold, hubs, brakes and is now rolling. Does anyone know any good tricks to get the seat to meet up better with the tank?

I think I will pull the top end off this week just to make sure everything is OK, I looked down the plug hole with a camera and its got quite a lot of oily carbon buildup in there and what looks like some kind of nest on the intake valve. No idea whats going with the shift lever, but I think I'll grab a new one .

It seems that pretty much every nut, bolt and washer on this bike is either in the wrong place or doesn't even belong to the bike. I am guessing the previous owner got it back from the Police in pieces and tried his best to reassemble it. I'll have to make a big list and just order all new mounting hardware before I star stripping it down for repsray

    Hi!

I was installing new (honda) rings this evening, but with the top two rings I cant work out if they have a top and bottom? both have yellow paint on the 'outer' (cylinder wall) edge, but nothing on the tops or bottoms of the rings... do they even have an orientation other than the gap split? If the middle ring has a chamfer I would prefer to install it the right way up

I am going to pretend that these two marks are what I am looking for, hopefully doesn't matter too much in a stock 50 anyway?

They look more like scratches to me 😳

Ok, so the plan is evolving .. i will be getting everything except tank and plastics blasted as soon as I find a fork bridge (bar bridge?) and replace the little loop near the headstem for the accel cable and loom.

Can anyone confirm, the holes in the bridge for the handlebars, should those holes be stepped? I just want to make sure I get the right one
