    J1 semi custom budget build

Hey All , Thought I would start a thread on my semi custom J1 budget build . Have had a bit of spare time on my hands as I'm out of work at the moment hence the budget build . Picked up a J1 comp frame of evilbay a few weeks ago . Have been trying to find a day where the temps are a bit warmer in the middle of the day and not too windy to paint the frame up ! Thought I would give it a go myself painting with 2K . Laid down 3 coats of debeer gloss black . Was quite happy with the results as I have only ever played with acrylic in the past and love how clean the finish is with the 2K considering i didn't paint it in a booth!

Forgot to remove the damm cover gromets ! So grabbed some new ones and new pair of tank mounting rubbers !Totally forgot that previous owner removed the battery box mount so bent up a new one and pop riveted it to the frame and drilled a couple of holes in the frame for my new seat (its a jz seat and didn't line up with the j1 mounts , then gave it a quick touch up . Cut up a old 12volt battery box and mounted it up , offset it back a bit so hopefully the 12 volt battery doesn't fowl on the j1 battery cover !

Next on the list was to repaint the J1 forks and rebuild the innards (as dex refers to them as ! )

Chucked a wobble cure kit on and some new fork bellows and fork boot !

Mounted the forks to the frame with some new caged honda bearings , grabbed a minimoto alloy nut / minimoto bar clamp . Pinched the bar knobs from my custom dax build and had a set of cheapy bars that I didn't end up using on one of my other builds . 20160613_145400.jpg20160613_150133.jpg

Things are starting to move along nicely now that I got my shipment from webike ! Grabbed a VM26 606 carb and blinged it out with some taki bits and shift up airfilter ! also got a adjustable intake manifold to tuck the carb under the J1 tank . Went with a GPX 125 and fitted up a billet Kitaco clutch cable receiver . Also got around to fitting up 12v wiring loom .

Definitely on the home stretch now ! Buttoned up the wheels and hubs , went with some Aluminium 8 inch rims in sort of original style as i'm tired of the rotting steel rims , picked up some minimoto brushed alloy finish hubs and finished of the rims with a pair of Duro 110 / 80's . Fitted up the mini moto classic style muffler as the original j1 header pipe would not let the gpx125 breath and grabbed a carbon fibre heat shield from Loy . Original j1 head light bucket with original speedo although it only goes to 50km/h . Alloy brake pedal and gcraft 12volt ignition relocater . Am waiting on another parts order for a webike order for a Renthal gold chain, clutch cable and Mini moto offset kicker , and hopefully my 12volt stator for lighting turns up this week . Gotta finish tidying up the wiring today and going to grab a vm26 pilot and main jet kit this week to dial the carb in , would anyone possibly know what the ball park starting point jet wise would be ??

    Bike is coming together great.

After playing around with VM26 on 2 similar sized engines I reckon main jet 180-185. Pilot jet I am less sure on but I think something around 19 to 21.

Went for a quick squirt around the block and decided to snap a few pics of the J1 , pretty happy with it although will still need some fine tuning as she is running a little rich , Just a few changes to the bike , Ended up swapping rear end for a +6 underbraced swingarm , not to over the top and still retains some of the original style and new Renthal RK chain as the other was was too short after swingarm swap , 320mm rear shocks , oil cooler , alloy top bridge ,new cnc alloy bar knobs , blue headstem nut , blue speedo surround amd blue alloy oil filler cap !

Hi! What Honda stator cover is that which fits on the GPX125? Is it off a 12V Monkey z50, ie. is the 12V deeper or is it off something else?

Pretty sure it's just 12V Z50 - Jaimie organised one for my Lifan 125cc motor that fits perfectly. Easiest to call and he'll sort you out (Classic Honda 50s).
