  • Jase on the Dyno (TB 108cc)

Finally had a chance to get a TB 108cc stroker on the dyno, the engine belonged to a customer and was installed in my Motovert RX50 for the dyno test.

    Engine Specifications:

CRF50 engine fitted with a TB Parts 12v 108cc stroker kit running the new roller rocker race head, HONDA OEM Stock Stator and Flywheel, TB Parts CDI, CF Posh Ignition Coil, Five 0 pipe, Mikuni VM26 carb with a #155 Main Jet, #20 Pilot Jet and needle clip in position P4.

Gearing on the Motovert was 16/39 with a 12" rear wheel.

The roller rocker race head had a base race prep with the inlet port matched to the inlet manifold, ports blended and seats hand finished:

Made between 10.8 and 11.2Hp through the tuning runs:

Nigels advice was to add around 200mm to the exhaust and try a 24mm carb to fix the air/fuel mixture ratio roller coaster ride.

The bike felt ok to ride but will be better with a 10" rear wheel and a 14 tooth front sprocket in a CRF50, it likes to rev.

Next engine on the dyno will be my JZ 108cc 6v motor:

    Cheers

    Jaimie

I would be happy with 11-12HP from my 108cc 6 volt JZ engine but the target for the 12 volt 108 engine is at least 14HP with either a CF Posh Or Takegawa complete ignition system, S30 cam and a tuned length exhaust.

what do you hope for the 124's we are building Jamie?

14hp from a TB108 I hope so, I think it was Monkeypower that said he got 14 from a Taki 106 and he was happy.

what ignition system did you run for the dyno?

Was running a stock CRF50 stator and flywheel, CF Posh Coil and a TB CDI.

Shooting for 15-16 HP with the 124 for a junior speedway bike test engine, but it won't quite be an out the box set-up, TB race prepped roller rocker head, 13:1 Takegawa 54mm forged piston, Takegawa S30 decomp cam, balanced 54mm stroker crank, tuned length Pot Belly Black Power Pipe, Mikuni 24mm Flatslide carb and CF Posh Ignition System with custom map, TB Manual Clutch with billet basket and shotpeened AHP 4 speed gearbox.

Will run it with a Mikuni VM26 first up on the road in my JZ then switch to a Yoshimura TM-MJN26, will be good to see the difference that the Yoshi carb makes.

                  Cheers

Finally have the TB 54mm pistons for the new roller rocker head in stock.

How much power difference does the roller rocker head make to stock tb race head? Is it recommended to run a 24mm carby with the old style head and 108?

                      Hi Nic19

Here is a link to a dyno comparison between the original Version 1 TB race head and the new Version 2 roller rocker race head on one of the US race teams Las Vegas 88cc vintage class race bikes, 2011 engine versus the 2012 engine:

TB Parts Race Head dyno comparison information from Storminnorman on the PlanetMinis Forum:

Base line from TB's old big valve 25/22 head vs the new V2 roller rocker head

                      - Both were dynoed at 108cc's

                      - Stock 3 speed trans

                      - TB manifold with vm26 carb

                      - Stock ignition

                      - Two brothers exhaust

                      - TB Manual clutch

                      - Chassis used was a 05' crf 70

TB V2 Race Head Dyno Comparison 2.jpg

Carb size will depend how you want to set your bike up, I just purchased the above dynoed 108 stroker engine from Jase and now have 3 TB 108 engines, will be running a Keihin PE24 with the roller rocker head on Jase's engine in my 12v 2002 XR50, Sheng Wey 24mm carb with the roller rocker head in my 6v J1 as I like the retro look of the carb, Mikuni VM24 with the original race head in my 12v 1994 Z50R, if I was racing or rode my bikes hard I would be running the VM26 or a 26mm Yoshi carb.

                      Cheers
