New import and compliance rules from 2018!!

Looks like good news on the horizon for monkey, motorbike and car enthusiasts in Australia!!!

The legislation has not been finalised yet, but it looks like from 2018 on it will be possible to import "near new" vehicles = vehicles that are less than 12 months old, with less than 500kms.

    If the legislation is implemented:
    - It will no longer be necessary to beg Honda (or any other big manufacturer) to bring in specific models.
    - Safety standards will be standardized amongst RHD markets = (Japan, UK, and Australia)
    - No compliance required for "near new" vehicles (no more $2500-$3000 compliance plates required!!).
    - Also opening up classic import system to any 25 year old vehicle "rolling time rule" (currently pegged at Jan 1st 1989).
    - And expanding models on the SEVS list (for used vehicles that are not considered "near new")
    - Also seems that the new system will be set-up for individuals to import what they want, rather than dealerships (Allowing imports of 1 vehicle every 2 years per person, meaning this system is being implemented for individuals).

Looks like big changes are on the way, opening up the market, and providing more freedom of choice, and lower costs for Australian bike and car enthusiasts (and Honda Monkey lovers!!)
