  • CRZ150

Here is one of my new projects that I call the CRZ150, I wanted a bit bigger bike to take a spare engine that was sitting around collecting dust so I combined some CRF50, XR50, XR70 and Z50 parts to put together a new bush basher.

It has XR70 2003 model forks and swingarm, CRF50 2005 model frame and seat, XR50 plastics, Takegawa rear shock and will be running Z50 8" 4 bolt brake hubs and rims with snow-hog tyres.

Have a YX150 engine with a race prepped TB V2 race head with Titanium Retainers and Alloy Roller Rockers, TB 60mm piston in the stock cylinder, TB rear facing inlet with a Mikuni VM26 round slide carb, stock ignition system (See how it goes), Takegawa clutch assembly and a home made exhaust system:

Tried Z50R forks on the front end to start with but I liked the look of the XR70 forks so will give them a try to start with:

XR70 Forks, the snow-hogs are not much smaller in diameter than the XR70 rims:

    I prefer the Z50 rims and snow-hogs:

Will throw some snow-hogs on the front and rear and get the engine in tomorrow to see how it looks.

    Cheers

I have worked with the YX150, YX160, Z155 and Z160HO modified engines with pitbike racing over a 5 year period, even though we had a lot of success and won an AMA #1 plate in the US with the Z160HO the YX150 is my favorite China Big Bore engine with it's 60mm bore x 53mm stroke it loves to rev and is a nice smooth set-up for what it is and what it costs to put together.

Will put up some more posts soon as I am currently slowly working on my dyno, a few Z50 parts manufacturing projects, my JZ, 2 x 83 Z50R's projects as well as the CRZ150, with soccer season over I have a bit of extra time at present

Got the motor back together and in the bike, if you have a race bike or are changing set-ups regularly use studs on your head covers so that you are not screwing bolts in and out of your alloy head all the time, a lot cheaper to replace nuts every now and then. The engine has been sitting for so long it still had the original steel roller rockers so I swapped them out for the TB alloy rockers:

It has a decent balanced look so far so good, the XR70 swingarm with the CRF50 frame allows the shock to sit on a good angle with plenty of frame clearance:
        DSC01669.jpg

The carb is tight as per usual but I just have to turn up some 25mm to 30mm spacers to get the fuel tank lifted, aligned correctly and sitting in the right spot:

Need to put a slight dint in the frame tube so that the back of the motor clears it and allows the rear mounting hole to align correctly:

Will fully depress the front suspension to see if the stock XR70 rim will clear the engine, if it is too tight I will go back to the Z50R forks with HD springs and bushes:
