Yes Dex. I scratched that area thinking it was built up crud.
I had the piston sitting in a bath of degreaser in the Vegemite jar.
A quick clean-up, and she'll be good to go!!

So I've tried to nut out an estimate to get my bike ready for a RWC and club reg using the original motor as I cannot use the new 150.
Please don't laugh too hard, but just curious to see if I'm on the right path.
        Any input welcome.

Can't believe I left the exhaust out!
I've been researching for ages for an under exhaust to fit the bikes frame!
The cc kits I am referring to are from Jamie's Member Offer area and include carbs.
                      Thanks Dex and OCD,
I need a twist grip, and the timing bits.
                      So, + $3-400.
                      Thanks guys!!

save ya 30 bucks here! oil cooler? cant say ive cooked my 108 with out it.
in my opinion the only thing an oil cooler does is adds more oil to circulate.
and the only time there cooling is when your full noise on the open road pumping the air through
them. when the motors working hard up an incline your not going fast enough to blow the air through. and when your cruising the streets at 60, pointless..
most of the air coolers ive seen a sitting fair on top of the motor where the heat of the head pumps
hot air through it and others are under the bloody exhaust, more like an oil warmer.
best spot for an oil cooler would have to be up between the forks where most big jap bikes run them. IMO and if i ever ran an oil cooler it would consist of a tin can that holds another 500 to 800ml of oil that circulates through the oil system. other wise it would be a cooler with a big arse thermo fan on it. ( phew this should get some reaction)

Scoot not sure if you deciphered the year yet but going on the colour it is a 1974 XL70 in 1975 they went to a candy blue. The stock 72cc is really peppy and seems to be a bit more powerful than what is in a dax/st70/ct70h.
